The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has said the suspect seen wearing military camouflage uniform in the Buipe car snatching syndicate, is not a member of the forces.

In the said circulated videos and pictures, one of the suspects is seen wearing military uniform which many have labelled him as a soldier of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The Ghana Police Service in a communique said five suspected armed robbers were arrested at Buipe in the Savannah Region after a robbery incident in Tamale.

The suspects, the police said, snatched a Toyota Camry saloon car from its owner at a residential area in Tamale and bolted.

They pursued them and succeeded in arresting them at Buipe.

A search on them led to the retrieval of a G3 Rifle and a pistol.

But, GAF in a statement issued on Monday January 24. 2022, and signed by Commander Andy La-Anyane, Acting Director of Public Relations, said “We wish to state categorically that the suspect is not a soldier of the Ghana Armed Forces.”

The Armed Forces continued to express its worry about the rising spate of impersonation by civilians, either wearing military uniforms or posting of fake pictures of themselves as military officers to defraud unsuspecting Ghanaians.

“The unauthorised sale of military uniforms and military pattern gadgets by some vendors contributes to this state of affairs and is inimical to national security” it noted.

GAF STATEMENT

The statement added: “The Ghana Armed Forces is ready to cooperate with the Police to unravel the source of the military uniform in this particular incident and to stop the unauthorised sale of military uniforms across the country.”

It called on the general public to be confident and provide accurate information to the security agencies to nib the trend in the bud.
