Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo has been sacked from office.
The decision to revoke the appointment of the minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, was taken by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, per article 81 (a) of the constitution.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin on Thursday, July 28.
According to the statement, Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah will continue to act as caretaker minister for the Gender Ministry until a substantive Minister is appointed by the President.
Below is the full statement
It comes at a time when Parliament is debating Sarah Adwoa Safo’s stay in the house for absenting herself for more than 15 sitting days without approval from the speaker of Parliament.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, earlier Thursday, July 28, 2022, deferred his ruling on Dome Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, who has been cited for absenteeism.
The concern was whether the embattled MP’s seat would be declared vacant after she failed to honour summons by the Privileges Committee, which considered her absenteeism.
Speaking after a debate on the report by the Privileges Committee, Mr. Bagbin said he needed ample time to submit a written ruling.
