Tamale-based lower-tier side, Tamale City FC has become the latest addition to secure promotion to play in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) campaign.
Their qualification into the Ghanaian elite football was confirmed after they emerged winner of GFA’s three-way playoff competition which started over the weekend.
The mini tournament organised by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was played among three teams namely, Tamale City, Ebusua Dwarfs, and Liberty Professionals meant to fight for a slot to replace demoted Obuasi-based Ashanti Gold SC in the GPL.
AshantiGold was demoted to the Division Two League following a decision by the GFA Disciplinary Committee which was affirmed by the Appeal Committee after being found guilty of match manipulation.
After the competition, Tamale City finished top of the playoffs with four points having recorded a 1-0 win and a 1-1 draw against Liberty Professionals and Ebusua Dwarfs respectively.
On the other hand, former premier league sides Ebusua Dwarfs and Liberty Professionals had one point each to place second and third respectively.
As a result, Tamale City FC secured promotion to play in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season as a direct replacement to AshantiGold.
