An Accra High Court Criminal Division has granted bail in the sum of GH₵500k to Evans Kyekyeku Oppong, the 42-year-old Netherland-based Ghanaian businessman who allegedly attempted to use his 11-year-old daughter for money ritual.
The suspect was arrested on June 3, 2022, after a herbalist in Oyibi near Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, Nana Adu-Boafo, caused his arrest when he visited the herbalist for consultation.
The herbalist alleged that Mr Oppong offered him GH₵10,000 including other good surprises as payment to sacrifice the 11-year-old girl for a money ritual.
He was subsequently charged with preparation to commit a crime (murder) upon his arrest.
On Monday, June 20, 2022, the court Presided over by Her Worship Ama Adomako Kwakye declined to admit Mr Oppong to bail. She held that the court did not have jurisdiction to grant bail in the matter.
However, the court on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, presided over by Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh who heard the bail application and granted same also directed that the accused reports to the case investigator every Tuesday until the final determination of the case.
In addition to the bail sum, he is to produce two sureties both of which are to be justified.
Evans Oppong Kyekyeku through his lawyers led by Ralph Agyepong moved the bail before it was granted.
