Some 12 suspected landguards have been apprehended by the Central East Regional Police Command.
The suspects, who were arrested at Gomoa Fetteh in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region had various offensive weapons including firearms in their possession. Sources say, the arrested culprits had planned an assassination attack on the Mankrado of Gomoa Fetteh Nana Kwasi Quansah.
According to sources the landguards numbering 12 in a black Toyota Hilux Truck GN 1626- Z planned to attack the Gomoa Fetteh Mankrado, Nana Kwesi Kwaansah whilst settling land matters at site.
The arrested persons upon sighting the Omankrado drew clubs fixed with nails to attack the chief but they were overpowered by the Asafo group and handed over to the police.
The Gomoa East District Security Council a few weeks ago imposed a ban on all landguard activities including the demand of digging fees.
Hence, the Gomoa Fetteh Stool Secretary, Nana Kwesi Duodu is calling on the police to conduct thorough investigations into the attempted attack on the Omankrado and have the suspected as well as other culprits brought to face justice.
In an interview, Secretary to the Gomoa Fetteh Stool, Nana Kwesi Duodu, said the attackers “picked some sticks [with nails attached] and they approached the mankrado but they were stopped by the Asafo group.”
“They purposely came attacking mankrado at the site. I don’t know if they had information that he was at the site…”
Nana Duodu added that “people have been accusing the mankrado of promoting landguardism in the area…We recently had a meeting that landguardism is becoming unbecoming in the area…”
