Pressure group, OccupyGhana (OG), has petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to launch investigations into the claim that a wealthy businessman attempted to bribe some 80 Members of Parliament of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
It was reported that the 80 lawmakers who demanded the resignation of Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta were influenced by the supposed businessman.
The bribe allegation was first made by Majority Leader of the House, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
Some 80 NPP MPs at a press conference called on President Akufo-Addo to fire Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
Following this, the President after a meeting with majority MPs urged them to exercise some restraint and give the Minister time to prepare the 2023 budget and also finish his ongoing engagement with the International Monetary Fund.
But according to OccupyGhana, the development must be probed to ascertain the truth because it is illegal to influence the conduct of MPs in their line of duty.
They said it is a “potential corruption offence that falls within remit of the Office of Special Prosecutor.”
The group thus wants the OSP not to hesitate to prosecute persons who may be found guilty of the allegations if they prove to be true.
