Former President John Dramani Mahama has challenged the Black Stars to go all out and raise the flag of Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup which kicks off on Sunday, November 20.

According to him, the team, has track record at the global showpiece adding, nothing should stop them from replicating same.

He, therefore, charged the Black Stars to show their exploits to the globe owing to their rich experience in the tournament.

Ghana will be making its fourth appearance at the FIFA World Cup (2006, 2010, and 2014) although it missed out on the last edition hosted in 2018 by Russia.

The team had its best record in 2010 when it reached the quarter-finals stage of the Mundial only to be kicked out by Uruguay in a penalty shootout.

The team failed to qualify from the group stage in Brazil in 2014.

“The Black Stars brought us immeasurable joy in 2006 and 2010 when they lifted the banner of Ghana and Africa so high that the world took notice,” the former president recalled in a Facebook post.

The statesman is convinced that “from all indications” Black Stars “stand poised to do so again at the 2022 edition in Qatar.”

“It must be our patriotic duty as citizens to give them our full support, and as Ghanaians, we must see this as a call to national duty.

“We might hold different views in our politics, religion, or ethnicity, but the Black Stars are the only senior national team we have, and we have always been united in rallying behind our team,” he opined.
