The chief of Nyanfueku Ekroful in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District of the Central Region, Nana Afransa VII has unveiled plans to make the farming community the new home for scholars in Ghana.
Addressing his people at a grand durbar to commemorate the first anniversary of his enstoolment as the leader of the community, Nana Afransa VII pledged to do “all within his means” to ensure that Nyanfueku Ekroful becomes the reference point in the country when it comes to scholars.
To this end, the energetic Chief has muted the setting up of an endowment fund in his community to provide scholarships for the brilliant but needy members of his community and to ensure that they climb up to the highest level of the educational calendar.
Nana Afransa VII was hopeful that names like Cardinal Peter Appiah-Turkson, Nana Ama Browne Klutse, who is the youngest Professor in Ghana; Mrs Nyarko of the famous Batsona Total in Accra and former Black Stars and Kumasi Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, who are all indigenes of the town will inspire the young ones to aspire for greater heights.
The Kotoko legend who was described as a man with magic hands became the best goalkeeper in Ghana in 1986 when he led Okwahu United to win FA championship.
“One thing I have realized is that God has really blessed our town because we have the first Cardinal, Peter Appiah-Turkson and the youngest Professor in Ghana now all indigenes of this town…so I believe with a small push, we can become a great town which can contribute meaningfully to the development of Ghana…,” he said.
He further mentioned that the endowment fund will be started with a seed capital of GHC 100,000 and will not only cater for the education needs of the people but health and also provide capital for small businesses in the town.
The chief indicated his willingness to help the fund by supporting the fund with GHC10,000; he also called on all natives of the town both home and abroad to come home and support the fund so the needed target will be achieved and used for its intended purposes.
Nana Afransa VII further assured that he will ensure that the fund is used for its intended purposes as according to him, a committee will be set up to man the account and administration of the fund to ensure judicious use of proceeds.
To this end, he called on well-meaning Ghanaians and institutions to come to the aid of the town when the time is up for the grand launch.
On his achievements as the chief of the town, Nana Afransa VII said he has contributed to the renovation of the town’s community centre and lobbied for other projects for the town.
“We realized that the boreholes in this town are not mechanized so we are working hard to get it mechanized to ensure longevity and make them safe for use…,” he added.
He also appealed to the government to come to the aid of the town and resume construction of a cocoa road in the area which connects the town to Abakrampa and Jukwa to open up the town.
