W/R: Gold Fields School Complex wins 2024 Independence Day quiz competition

The Gold Fields School Complex in Tarkwa in the Western Region, has emerged champions at the annual Independence Day Inter-District Junior High School (JHS) Quiz Competition.

The programme which was sponsored by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, featured 14 basic schools from various Metropolitan, Municipal and, District Assemblies in the region.

The 2024 edition of the competition was under the theme “Promotes Knowledge About Ghana’s Independence, Culture and Governance Among Pupils.”

At the end of a fierce contest among the participating schools, it was the Gold Fields School Complex from Tarkwa that emerged victorious following a five-star performance.

A scintillation display also from the pupils from St Anthony of Padua Catholic Basic School and Peace International School saw them take the second and third placed positions respectively in that order.

Contestants of the winners received prizes including laptops, tablets, educational materials and medals as their rewards.

Gold Fields Ghana Foundation taking to their socials was pleased with the competitiveness displayed by the pupils from the various schools especially the in-depth knowledge and intellect.

The foundation further commended the eventual winners of the year’s organised Independence Day Inter-District Junior High School quiz.

“Congratulations to Gold Fields School Complex in Tarkwa for winning the Western Region Independence Day Inter-District JHS Quiz Competition,” it said in a release available to Angelonline.com.gh

Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, proven over time its commitment and support to quality education in its catchment area of operations reiterated to ensure they improve the current level of education to a higher level in the Western Region

“Improving education is one of five priority areas of the Foundation,” it stated.

About the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation

In 2002, Gold Fields Ghana established a Community Development Fund to help finance development initiatives, projects and programmes in the host communities of the Tarkwa and Damang mines.

However in 2004, the fund was officially registered as the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation. The Foundation has a formalised governance structure and funding mechanism.

Being the first foundation to be set up by a mining company in Ghana, the foundation focuses on five key areas, namely: education, health, water and sanitation, agriculture and infrastructure.
