The Allied Health Professional Graduate Association of Ghana has expressed deep concern over the prolonged wait for postings dating back to 2019.
Bright Somuah Boahen, the National President of the association, highlighted the plight of health professional graduates who have remained unposted for years.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show, Boahen emphasized that despite graduating, these professionals have been left in limbo since 2019 while new students continue to graduate from their colleges.
The root cause of the delay, according to Boahen, remains elusive. Despite approaching the Ministry of Health, they were informed that the Ministry of Finance is still processing clearances.
Boahen lamented that many of these graduates are forced into menial jobs for survival, causing significant disruptions in their personal lives, including delays in marriage. While nurses from the 2019 cohort have been posted, the allied health students remain overlooked.
The dire circumstances have pushed some female graduates to desperate measures, resulting in unintended pregnancies as they seek means to make ends meet. Despite repeated attempts to seek redress through official channels, including visits to the Ministry of Health, no concrete solutions have been forthcoming.
He added that, “We renew our licenses annually, attend workshops, yet there’s been no progress.”
He stressed the urgency for government intervention, as seeking employment in private hospitals doesn’t guarantee success, particularly given the stigma associated with being from the allied health sector.
