The former Greater Accra Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Ade-Coker, has condemned the ruling New Patriotic Party for its decision to embark on project commissioning amid the 2024 general elections.

He accused the NPP of scheduling last-minute project inaugurations to gain political points and to also cover its shortcomings.

Ade-Coker described these actions as a “political gimmick” and criticized the NPP for resorting to this approach, stating that they have brought hardship upon Ghanaians.

His remarks were a response to statements by the Municipal Chief Executive of Ga West, Clement Wilkinson, who mentioned on the Angel Morning Show that the government plans to commission most of the Agenda 111 hospital facilities before the year’s end.

In a rebuttal, Ade-Coker questioned the NPP’s timing, saying, “You have been in government for seven and a half years, and now you think commissioning hospital facilities with just 24 days to the election is the way to go?” he retorted on Thursday’s edition of the show.

He further challenged the NPP’s intentions, asking, “When will you employ doctors to staff these facilities? What the NPP is doing is what we call a political gimmick.”

According to the former administrator of Accra Great Olympics football club, Ghanaians have already decided who they will vote for, and he believes the NPP’s last-minute efforts to canvass sympathy votes ahead of December will not succeed.

He added that, much like the recent U.S. election where Donald Trump won despite the Democrats’ attractive promises, the same could happen in Ghana as voters won’t trade relief from economic hardship for empty promises.

“Whether you commissioned 20, 33 hospitals or school facilities or whatever it is …..the fact of the matter is that the standard of living has become so hard and that is the reality,” he added.
