The Convention People’s Party (CPP), has launched a transformative policy document known as the “Women’s Manifesto”, designed to change Ghana’s economic, social, and political landscape.
Launched on Friday, November 15, 2024, the groundbreaking manifesto was unveiled by the presidential candidate of the party, Nana Frimpomaa.
The event was graced by key political figures, including Comrade Kwame Nkrumah Botoe, CPP General Secretary, Comrade Hajia Hamdatu, the Women’s Organizer Comrade Felicia, and Dr. Asiseh, an Independent presidential candidate who, along with his running mate and members, dropped their candidacy to support Nana Frimpomaa’s bid for the presidency.
Dubbed “Women’s Manifesto” the CPP recognizes and acknowledges women’s hard work, dedication, and resilience in supporting families, caring for children, and contributing to the economy.
According to CPP, the manifesto also serves as a powerful tribute to women’s strength and endurance and a commitment to addressing the challenges they face’.
“To the CPP, the Women’s Manifesto is a beacon of hope for a brighter future, where women are valued, empowered, and celebrated. The manifesto, unveiled at a vibrant and well-attended press conference in Accra, outlined a clear path to eradicating poverty, empowering Ghanaians, and making Ghana truly the property of its people, not foreign interests,” It said.
Key highlights from the Women’s Manifesto include eradication of poverty through AfroSure and Modern farming, the GhanaBa Shares, Government at your doorstep, a quota for all disabled persons, and free education to the university level.
Speaking at the launching, the Presidential candidate described the manifesto as one that marks a bold and unprecedented step in Ghana’s political evolution.
“The CPP seeks to reshape the country’s future through economic empowerment, inclusive governance, and a strong commitment to the welfare of all Ghanaians,” Nana Frimpomaa.
Find below details from CPP’s Women’s Manifesto.
1. Eradication of Poverty through AgroSure and Modern Farming
The CPP’s flagship policy promises to phase out traditional hoe-and-cutlass farming by introducing AgroSure, an initiative aimed at modernizing agriculture. The government intends to purchase all farm produce from Ghanaians, mimicking the success of the Cocoa sector. Farmers will move from subsistence to commercial farming, benefiting from a shareholder model where they become owners of cooperative farming ventures.
2. GhanaBa Shares
In a groundbreaking move to empower citizens, the GhanaBa Shares program will provide 20 million Ghanaians with a GH₵20,000 stake, encouraging collective ownership and economic empowerment. This program is a direct challenge to foreign ownership of Ghana’s resources and a call for local people to become the true owners of the nation.
3. Government at Your Doorstep:
The Women’s Manifesto introduces the concept of 40,000 Government-at-Your-Doorstep Centres at every polling station. These centers will facilitate direct communication between the people and government, with citizens empowered to raise concerns, provide solutions, and engage with local government on crucial issues, including disability support, funding concerns, and property rights.
4. Disability Quota
The manifesto emphasizes inclusivity by reserving one seat at each center for people with disabilities. This policy ensures that no citizen is left behind and that governance is truly for all, by all.
5. Free Education to University Level
As part of her commitment to education, Nana Frimpomaa’s manifesto promises free education for all children up to the university level. This radical shift aims to address the current challenges of high student dropout rates and the struggle for access to tertiary education.
