An Arabic school teacher in Lagos, Oladosu Sakiru, has been sentenced to 21 years in prison by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.
The Arabic teacher was sentenced on Tuesday, for attempting to sexually assault a 13-year-old female pupil.
Justice Rahman Oshodi gave the judgment following Sakiru’s guilty plea to the amended two counts of attempted assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child.
The court held that the evidence before it deduced a pattern of predatory behaviour as the teacher subjected the survivor to inappropriate touching and forced himself on her.
“As an imam and an Arabic school teacher, you occupy a position of significant trust extended not only to the 13-year-old girl that you victimised but also to her parents and entire community that look to you for spiritual and moral guidance.
“You betrayed this trust in the most deplorable manner,” the trial judge said.
