Former Member of Parliament for Buem constituency, Daniel Kwasi Ashiamah, has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to take decisive action against corruption within the police recruitment process.

During a discussion on the Angel Morning Show with Kojo Oppong Kyeremeh on Monday March 17, 2025, Mr. Ashiamah highlighted concerns about individuals being asked to pay huge sums such as Gh¢ 20,000.00, for recruitment slots.

He believes it undermines the integrity of the service. “ Why are they taking money from the people?”

He emphasized that such practices prevent qualified citizens who may not have the financial means to pay these amounts.

Mr. Ashiamah referenced President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to ‘reset’ the nation, arguing that corrupt practices like these must be eradicated to ensure fairness in recruitment.

He recounted his own experience as an MP, noting that; “I have never gotten any protocol forms.”

He stressed that interested individuals should be able to apply for police positions without having to pay. He urged that all eligible candidates should have the opportunity to join the police service based on merit, rather than financial capability.

In his remarks, he criticized the leadership under Dampare, urging the new IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to address these issues and ensure that positions within the police service are not sold.

“Individuals who are interested in joining the police service should be given the opportunity if they qualify,” he said.
