Be responsible for what you download – Cyber Security Expert

Must Read

Cyber security expert, David Gyedu alias D.K. Cyber, has urged Ghanaians to be mindful of what they download from the internet.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Friday, March 21, 2025, he stated that Ghanaians should be cautious about the applications they download on their devices as this can enable hackers to gain easy access to their phones and personal information.

According to D.K. Cyber, there are some applications that collect individuals’ personal information, such as contacts and locations, before the app can operate effectively.

He noted that most applications mimic legitimate functions on the phone when downloaded, which is why Ghanaians should be responsible for what they download from the internet.

“Alternatively, you can get a different device for that purpose and also have a device that you can use for your confidential activities. We should be responsible for what we download,” he explained.

D.K. Cyber further pointed out that hackers have now developed applications that make it easy for them to access individuals’ personal details, which can result in their phones being hacked when downloaded.

He advised Ghanaians to avoid downloading certain applications that collect their personal information.

“When you do your due diligence investigations, you could see some of the platforms that help you download free videos; after downloading the videos, you’ll see a pop-up advert, which we call adware.

The intention of it is that it carries a little bit of malware that can cause destruction to your computer. Small things contribute to our hacks.”

He hinted “Your phone is the only device that contains all your documents, so when you are doing something on it, you should be careful.”
