President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Ghana Armed Forces to stay ahead of evolving security threats, including terrorism, cybercrime, political instability, and climate-related challenges.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Armed Forces Council on Monday 24th March, 2025, he emphasized the need for investment in modern military technology, training, and infrastructure to strengthen national defense and ensure the military remains adaptable.

President Mahama charged the council to ensure that the Ghana Armed Forces remain prepared to respond effectively to any situation.

He assured them of his administration’s commitment to modernizing the military, prioritizing capacity-building programs to equip personnel with the skills needed to handle both conventional and unconventional threats.

“In today’s world, the nature of our security threats is rapidly evolving from terrorism to cybercrime to political instability and climate-related security challenges.”

“Our armed forces must remain prepared to respond effectively in any circumstance. This means we must invest in the necessary tools, training, and infrastructure to keep our military strong, adaptable, and ahead of emerging threats,” he stated.

Mr. Mahama further highlighted plans to invest in modern military technology and equipment to enhance national defense capabilities.

He also stressed the importance of improving military infrastructure, such as barracks, training facilities, and logistics support systems.

Additionally, he underscored the need to enhance welfare programs for military personnel and their families, recognizing that their well-being extends beyond the battlefield.
