Founder of the Union Government, Akwasi Addae Odike has alleged that, political officials from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) use illegal mining proceeds to finance their activities.

In a panel discussion with Saddick Adams on the Angel Morning Show (AMS), Odike asserts that officials from both the NPP and the NDC promise the average Ghanaian to eliminate illegal mining (Galamsey) activities but do not deliver on their commitments.

According to him, these politicians own most concessions to when their party is in control and engage foreigners to operate in them.

Odike feared that “in five years, foreigners will flood into the nation to overwhelm our security.”

He argues that this will create an opportunity for terrorist groups to infiltrate the country, as these politicians, who should be stopping such actions, are instead promoting them.

“Foreigners will invade the country like the Boko Haram situation in Nigeria and they will destabilise Ghana.”

Odike observed that, the unfortunate aspect of the situation is that these extracted gold resources do not benefit the government of Ghana and are instead sold in western countries.
