The days when the trips of Ghanaian football enthusiasts were funded by the state to support various national teams on assignment are over, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation declared.
The sector Minister, Kofi Adams, announced this latest development in a recent interview.
Over the years, the cost of flying supporters to major tournaments, such as the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the FIFA World Cup, to support various national teams has been a burden on the government.
Speaking on the development, Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams stated that state funding for supporters’ travel would be a thing of the past under the current government.
He indicated that the government would instead seek partnerships with corporate entities to cover such expenses.
“I don’t think that the government should spend money to fly fans to tournaments. We can engage corporate sponsors to send supporters, but not using government funds,” the minister stated in an interview quoted by Sporty FM.
