Twenty-five final-year students of Agona Swedru Senior High School (SWESCO) have been suspended indefinitely, following their alleged involvement in a violent altercation that erupted over a same-sex relationship proposal between two male students.
According to school authorities, the trouble began when one male student proposed to another, who rejected the offer and allegedly conspired with friends to set up the proposer.
A physical assault ensued, prompting retaliation from the proposer’s dormitory mates, and the situation eventually escalated into a full-blown fight involving multiple students.
The school administration has since taken disciplinary action, suspending the 25 students involved indefinitely.
Headmistress of the school, Golda Esi Andam, confirmed to local journalists that all the students involved in the suspension had a fair hearing from the school’s authority before the decision was implemented.
According to her, the “students will write their final exams under the escort of their parents,” she noted, referring to the 2025 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which officially begins on Tuesday, August 5.
Mrs. indicated that despite the disciplinary actions, the students’ right to education would not be denied.
