A devastating fire erupted at the Madina Washing Bay near Redco Flats on Sunday, August 3, 2025, destroying several makeshift wooden and metal structures used for commercial and residential purposes.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the inferno gutted utility poles, traders’ goods, personal belongings, and an unspecified number of structures valued at several thousand cedis.

One firefighter sustained a minor leg injury during the operation, the service disclosed.
The GNFS explained that it received a distress call at 12:36 p.m. and promptly dispatched a crew from the Madina Fire Station, arriving on scene within four minutes.
Four additional fire engines from Legon, Abelempke, and GNFS Headquarters reinforced the firefighting effort.
The coordinated response saw the fire confined by 1:42 p.m. and fully extinguished by 1:54 p.m.
According to the GNFS, overhaul operations continued until its teams salvaged adjoining structures and contents.
Authorities say investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
