Aspiring General secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has expressed his desire to heal divisions and unite the party under his potential leadership.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Friday, September 12, 2025, he stressed that individual differences have hindered the party’s unity, and his strategy would involve identifying the challenges and rallying members around a common purpose.
“The problem of the party is mainly based on its unity, my main heart desire is to bring unity back in the party; what can be done? You’re supposed to be able to identify;
“Some of the members are angry and some are harbouring pain so they have stayed away from the party,” he noted.
He continued: “Some too, based on the party’s principles, they were sacked because they flouted some regulations, some too many not have understood certain things about the part and therefore decided to step back, so we have to bring everyone back united,” he said.
In his quest for unity, he disclosed that he sought guidance from seasoned leaders within the NPP, who shared their experiences and offered advice on how to fortify the party.
Mr. Kokofu emphasized that acknowledging past mistakes is crucial for the party to move forward.
“What outstands the most is for us to accept certain mistakes so that we can take a step towards that; that is what we call atonement,” he reiterated.
He proposed that, following the acknowledgement of past mistakes, his approach as a General secretary would be to employ the mechanisms of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), by bringing in professional mediators, arbitrators and negotiators to resolve conflicts, ensuring a fair and expert-driven process.
He further added that, after uniting the NPP, he plans to strengthen its structures from grassroots to the national level through rigorous supervision.
Dr. Henry Kokofu also mentioned his plans to establish a robust database for both the party and its members, facilitating registration at all levels, and enabling sustainable financial contributions that would not only fund party activities but also provide benefits and comfort to members.
Under his leadership as a General secretary, he vows to win back the trust of the youth who have become disillusioned with the NPP, working together to rebuild the trust and revitalize their connection to the party.
“My administration as a General secretary will bring everybody back together, and to all the youth who have lost hope and confidence in us, as a General secretary, we will build the trust, we’ll invite them and let them know they’re part of the rebuilding agenda.
“They should come and join us, and together we will rebuild, we will rebuild the party with the youth and for the youth,” he affirmed.
