Ghana’s Benjamin Azamati has failed to advance to the semifinals of the Men’s 100 Metres at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
Competing from Lane 6 in the fifth of seven heats, the former national sprint record holder placed sixth, clocking a time of 10.30 seconds.
Only the top three finishers in each heat earn automatic qualification to the next round. Defending World Silver medalist Letsile Tebogo claimed victory in Azamati’s heat with a time of 10.07 seconds.
Canadian veteran Andre De Grasse secured second place in 10.16 seconds, while American sprinter Courtney Lindsey took third with a time of 10.19 seconds.
Athletes who made it through will vie for spots in the final later tonight, with the semifinal heats scheduled to begin at 20:35 GMT.
Notable qualifiers include reigning World Champion Noah Lyles, Oblique Seville, and Kishane Thompson.
Azamati remains in contention as part of Ghana’s 4×100 Metre Relay Team, set to compete on September 20 at 20:25 GMT.
