The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) Julius Neequaye Kotey, has disclosed how he rejected a GH¢4 million cash offer, allegedly intended as a bribe.
According to him, the gesture was meant to persuade him to back off from implementing the new DP plate policy.
“When I started this initiative, a gentleman called me. As I speak to you now, I don’t even know where he is now, whether it was a trap or what, he brought Ghc4m cash to my office…,” Mr. Kotey revealed on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
He further stated that the rejection strengthened his resolve to implement the DP policy and prevent such practices from continuing.
“I just said please, I’m sorry, I can’t take this, that was what motivated me the more.”
Mr. Kotey revealed that he chose not to escalate the matter in order to protect the image of the DVLA at the time.
“Those times sincerely, DVLA didn’t have a good name, so I didn’t want to bring it out to further tarnish the image of the authority, I want to change things,” he asserted.
He continued “They came to my office, to plead with me concerning the DP stickers I am about to introduce, saying the plate is what they get their money from.”
His revelation has prompted the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to invite him for questioning, as part of the government’s commitment to running a corruption-free administration.
