Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN) has culminated the 2025 edition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a free breast screening exercise.
The exercise was held at the premises of the station in Akweteyman Flattop, attracting numerous listeners and residents from the Greater Accra Metropolis.

The event, which occurred on Friday, October 31, provided participants with free breast screenings and also advised men to regularly check their wives’ breasts to prevent breast cancer in the future.
Madam Ena Torkonoo of the Islamic Nursing Training College in Kokrobite, Accra, emphasised that neglecting regular breast screenings and self-examinations can be life-threatening for women.

During the programme, Ms. Torkonoo explained that early screening is vital. She noted that breast cancer often does not show obvious symptoms; however, without timely checks, the disease can progress silently, leading to serious health complications and potentially resulting in loss of life.
“It can lead to a lot of issues if you don’t check it on time and you may lose your life,” she urged.

However, she advised women to make use of what they have been taught and to practice self-breast examinations at home.
According to Madam Torkonoo, this practice allows women to monitor their breasts regularly and seek medical advice promptly if they detect any abnormal symptoms.

“That’s why we are doing this for women to screen their breasts and women will be taught self-breast examination at home,” she concluded.
She added that raising public awareness about breast cancer during October, widely recognised as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is essential to saving lives through regular screening.
