The Ghana Police Service’s Homicide Unit has begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of 16-year-old Ransford Owusu Ansah, a junior footballer with Siano Soccer Academy in Accra.
In a press release signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Grace Ansah-Akrofi, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, preliminary investigations suggest Ransford was allegedly sexually abused by a coach at the academy before his death on Friday, February 28, 2025.
According to reports, Ransford’s mother, Ama Asantewaa, reported to the Amasaman police station that her son had fallen ill and died, indicating that before her son’s death, he confided in her that his coach, had sexually abused him.
The coach, identified as Anyass Ibrahim, was arrested and assisted with investigations.

He was interrogated, his statement was taken and later granted bail to be reporting at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters.
However, medical reports indicate that the victim was treated for liver and kidney issues at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Kumasi prior to his death.
The GPS is seeking the full medical report, and have obtained a court order to access the documents.
The Police is appealing for information on the case and have extended investigations following a viral video involving the suspect and the minor.
The GPS further urged anyone with credible information to contact the Homicide Unit at CID headquarters or the nearest police station.
