Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed condolences to the families of the six individuals who lost their lives in the recent stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium during a Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise.
According to a statement posted on his Facebook page, he had returned from Angola to the devastating news of the tragic incident, which also left several others injured and receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
He extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery, describing the event as a heartbreaking moment for the nation.
“I convey to the bereaved families my deep condolences and wish the potential recruits in hospital a rapid recovery from their injuries, and indeed, from the accompanying trauma to all who were at the El Wak Stadium,” he said.
“May the Lord be with us all at this difficult moment,” he added.
