Ghana’s Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat to Japan in the 2025 Kirin Championship at the Toyota Stadium in Aichi on Friday, November 14.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Takumi Minamino, who capitalized on early pressure to give the Blue Samurai the lead.
Japan continued to dominate possession and doubled their advantage in the 59th minute when Ritsu Doan curled a superb effort into the bottom corner.
In response, Black Stars head coach Otto Addo introduced several substitutes, including Christopher Bonsu Baah, Prince Owusu, Prince Kwabena Adu, Gideon Mensah, Alidu Seidu, and Prince Osei Owusu, as Ghana pushed for a way back into the game.
Atalanta winger Kamaldeen Sulemana came close in the 71st minute, but his effort was well saved by the Japanese goalkeeper.
Despite creating a few chances, Ghana struggled to break down Japan’s resolute defense. Goalkeeper Joseph Anang made several key saves to prevent further damage.
The result serves as a confidence boost for Japan ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while Ghana will aim to regroup when they face South Korea in an international friendly on Tuesday, November 18.
