The Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East Constituency, Queenstar Pokuah Sawyer, has awarded scholarships and laptops to 100 tertiary students in her constituency.
Speaking to the media, she highlighted that the scholarships are specifically aimed at supporting mothers who struggle to cater for their children and the less privileged.
“When I see women struggling to take care of their child and the money is not there, I feel emotional,” she stated.
Madam Sawyer encouraged students to study diligently to make their parents proud, especially advising young women to avoid distractions from men while maintaining confidence in everything they do.
She added that, while the government also offers scholarships, her initiative will continue independently, and she affirmed that she will provide these scholarships every year.
She assured attendees that she is committed to establishing various job institutions within Agona East, including the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The EPA facility, she said, is currently under construction and will be completed very soon; these institutions will help students secure employment in the constituency after graduation.
“If you are working in DVLA here in Kwanyarko, you will receive the same salary as someone at Accra DVLA, and that will also help you to get promotion easily,” she uttered.
