The Paramount Chief of the Atebubu Traditional Area, Ohempon Dr Yeboah Asiamah, has met with Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi, to discuss the proposed establishment of a military barracks in Atebubu.
In a statement issued by the Ministy of Defence on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the traditional leader revealed that the Southern Command had conducted feasibility studies in the area, and he has released approximately 250 acres of land for the project.

Ohempon Dr. Asiamah also proposed other investment projects, including poultry farming, citing high demand for chicken and eggs in Atebubu and surrounding communities.

Mr. Brogya Genfi assured the Paramount Chief of the government’s commitment to expanding military infrastructure across the country, with plans to establish barracks in all regions.
The statement further noted that President John Dramani Mahama has directed that regional barracks projects include airstrips, with Atebubu captured under the initiative.
The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude for the land allocation and promised a visit to the Atebubu Traditional Area in March to commence the project.
