The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency is on the verge of experiencing serious internal cracks, as many party members within the constituency staged a demonstration against alleged favoritism and the hijacking of the party to serve the interest of one individual.
The demonstration saw the participation of youths, former party leaders, some constituency executives, and founding members who helped establish the party in Tarkwa Nsuaem.
Speaking to the press, Nana Sulley, the convener of the demonstration, stated that he has been with the party since 1992 and has served as an executive in the constituency for many years.
However, according to him, things started changing when Hon. George Mireku Duker expressed interest in contesting for the seat.
He further explained that instead of allowing internal elections to be conducted within the Tarkwa Nsuaem NPP, some preferred constituency executives were allegedly imposed through selection rather than election, which he said is against the rules and regulations of the great Elephant Party.
Adding to the concerns, Amporful Adu Nakaa, spokesperson for the aggrieved members of the NPP Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency, said they have lost trust in both the constituency and regional executives because several petitions submitted to them have not received any attention.
Finally, Auntie Hannah, a founding member of the party in Tarkwa Nsuaem, said she was deeply saddened to see the NPP they fought so hard to build being reduced to such a state in the constituency. She called on the National Executive Committee to listen to their grievances and act accordingly.
Following the heated demonstration, the aggrieved members of the party are calling on the National Executive Committee to intervene in the ongoing issues within the constituency and direct the executives to reorganize the polling station elections.
