Irresponsible leadership cause of Gbiniyiri clashes – Solomon Owusu

Communications team member for Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has attributed the Gbiniyiri land dispute in the Sawla-Tuna Kalba District of the Savannah Region to irresponsible leadership in the country.

His comment follows the violence that has erupted over a disputed parcel of land, which has sparked unrest and has led to the loss of lives and others being injured in the community.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Mr. Owusu asserted that the failure of leaders to be truthful on issues pertaining to land disputes often leads to encroachment, which sparks clashes.

“We don’t go by the truth in this country, we twist the truth, every land has its owner; if you trace every land, you will realise some used war to claim lands, others too bought them, and some also received them as gifts.

“If we know that this particular land doesn’t belong to this person or people, why don’t we tell them to release them to the real owners?

“We have had irresponsible leadership in the country, and until we tell human beings the truth, there is no way,” he said.

He also accused some politicians of fueling the violence by secretly encouraging the youth to fight over disputed lands, often for their own gain.

He called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohonu, to ensure justice prevails by apprehending all individuals involved in the violence, and urged the Attorney General (AG), Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, to be prepared to prosecute offenders in order to maintain law and order.

“Arrest any chief who is behind the conflict; no one is above the law; if that is done, everyone will be careful and peace will reign,” he reiterated.
