A security guard at the Kumasi Airport has been interdicted for conducting a pre-boarding search on the National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah.
In their interdiction letter, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) announced that the actions of the said security guard caused embarrassment to the minister.
The letter, which was signed by the Company’s officer in charge of Human Capital and officer service, R. S. Tagoe indicated that the guard, Awudu Basit, “approached the Hon. Minister and demanded to conduct a pre-boarding search on him in the open frontage of the VVIP Lounge which ended up embarrassing the Hon. Minister.”
The GACL declared that a negative impression has been cast upon the company’s image and integrity following the incident.
Management therefore, in line with Article 17(e) of the Collective Agreement said “we notify you [Awudu Basit] of your interdiction from Friday September 9, 2022 pending the completion of investigations into the matter.”
Despite his interdiction, Awudu Basit will receive two-thirds of his salary during the period.
However, another letter dated September 13, cited by angelonline.com.gh shows the GACL has revised its decision to interdict the guard.
Ghana Airports noted that the decision is due to “further consultations and facts which have since come to its attention.”
“The Committee of Enquiry shall proceed with its mandate as spelt out in the Convening Order”.
