Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has suspended his political campaign upon hearing news of the death of former president Jerry John Rawlings.
Mr. Mahama was in Obuasi as part of his six-day tour of the Ashanti Region when news broke that his party founder had passed Thursday morning at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
In a brief statement, the former President said he was suspending the 2020 electioneering campaign in honour of the memory of the country’s longest-serving leader.
Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo has also suspended his political activities and directed flags should fly at half mast in honour of the former Head of State.
The President in also a statement also declared seven days of national mourning beginning Friday November 12, through to Friday the 20th.
