Ghana beat Sao Tomé to finish as Group C leaders
The Black Stars of Ghana defeated Sao Tomé and Principe by 3-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium in their last Afcon 2021 qualification match.
Head coach of the Black Stars, Charles Akonnor made four changes in the starting lineup that drew 1-1 with South Africa on Thursday. He introduced captain Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey and Osman Bukari.
The Black Stars started on a good note dominating the game from kickoff.
Ghana took the lead on the 12th minutes kind courtesy Nicholas Opoku header after Kudus Mohammed assisted from the corner kick.
Ghana continued their supremacy over their opponent as Jordan Ayew won a penalty in the 29th for the home side when he was brought down in the 18yard box. Jordan scored from the spot to increase the lead for Ghana.
The Stars won the half following the two unanswered goals scored by Nicolas Opoku and Jordan Ayew.
The Black Stars of Ghana started the second half as favourite. In the 53rd minutes, Andre Ayew set Awako but the latter shoots over the bar.
Left back, Abdul Baba Rahman made it three for Ghana from close range on the 60th minutes to put his side in a comfortable lead.
The visitors pulled one back on the 83rd minutes following a miskate from goalkeeper, Razak Abalora.
Imoro Ibrahim, Gladson Awako, Kwesi Wreidt Okyere, Justice Blay, Kwame Poku came on from the bench as Ghana qualify for their ninth consecutive Afcon tournament.
Ghana topped Group C with 13 points, Sudan with 12 points, South Africa had 10 points as Sao Tomé and Principe recorded zero point.
