The Asokore Mampong Magistrate Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of 61 persons suspected to be involved in the clash between rival halls – University Hall ‘Katanga’ and Unity Hall ‘Continental’ at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
According to management of the school they are working with the police to take the suspected students into custody.
The arrest follows a violent clash that ensued after residents of Katanga were restrained from proceeding with their Hall week procession upon reaching Unity Hall.
Members of both halls attacked each other with stones among other objects.
At least 12 students of the University are reported to have sustained varying degrees of injury while school and private properties such as vehicles parked were vandalised in the process.
Two suspects have been remanded into police custody. One has been identified as 25-year-old Daniel Osei Bonsu, who is an alumni of the school and currently a Mechanical Engineer.
Meanwhile, reports indicate some of the students have fled the school to evade arrest.
According to the University Relations Officer, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe the identified students would also face internal sanctions.
