Black Queens attacking midfielder, Evelyn Badu left it late to score the winner as Ghana beat Senegal 1-0 in an International friendly at the Accra Sports stadium on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
The match which was the second leg of a double header between the two West African sides form parts of their preparations for future competitions after both missed out on the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
Coach Nora Hauptle made four changes to the Ghanaian side that won the first leg 3-0 with McCarthy Kerrie, Anasthesia Achiaa, Patience Peterson and Princess Owusu all starting in place of Cynthia Konlan, Adama Alhassan, Gifty Assifuah and Azumah Bugre.
The Lioness of Senegal started the game by playing to an impressive pattern and spreading the ball around in a swift manner seeking to unlock the defence of Ghana however they failed to do so. They also ensure that they did not concede as the first half ended goalless.
Back from recess, Ghana then took full control of proceedings following the introduction of Suzzy Dede Teye, Victoria Osei and Adama Alhassan where the coach resorted to wing play and finally found the back of the net through Evelyn Badu in the 84th minutes.
Badu received a cross from Adama Alhassan went past two Senegalese defenders, created space in the box before planting the ball into the net from close range.
The Black Queens thus pushed for a second – but that came to naught as referee Vincentia Amedome whistled for the end of proceedings – as Ghana cruised to a 4-0 win over the two legs.
Nora Hauptle used the two test matches to prepare the team for their upcoming qualifiers for the African Women’s Cup of Nations and the African Games slated for Accra in March 2024.
