Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Henry Asante Twum, has pointed out that Black Stars coach Chris Hughton plays key roles such as offering advice and guidance to the junior national teams.
Mr Twum who detailed other responsibilities of the coach revealed the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager has duties beyond only handling the affairs of the Black Stars due to his experience.
Speaking on the WarmUp show over the weekend, the communication director explained saying, “Chris is the coach of the Black Stars but he has other responsibilities, advice, guidance, and what have you, to the other national teams. so watching the games gives him the opportunity to also recommend players who fall within the competition, U-23, U-20, and U-17 who are still playing in the Black Stars and those he thinks also qualify to play in the Black Stars will be given a fair opportunity.”
He added that the decision to give Chris Hughton access to the junior national teams forms part of the FA’s move to build winning teams to compete in future competitions both on the continent and the international front.
“So, it’s part of the mid to long-term process of incorporating everyone and giving everybody the opportunity to have a fair share of what is being done.
“It’s a process. We are in the process of building a winning squad one more time. It will take time. It needs a lot of investment. Investment here talks about time, money, energy, ideas, thinking, and a whole lot more,” he indicated.
Chris Hughton, appointed in February 2023, has recorded one win and one draw in his first two matches in charge of the Black Stars. Prior to his appointment, he was the technical advisor to immediate past stars coach Otto Addo.
