The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken decisive action against its Central Regional Chairman, Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah, over the suspension of the Assin North parliamentary candidate.
The suspension, effective immediately, follows a meeting of the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) on July 2, 2024, where the Mr Eduamoah was given an opportunity to explain the circumstances surrounding the controversial decision.
The FEC determined that the withdrawal of Mr. Nurein Shaibu Mijima, the NDC’s 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Assin Central, was conducted without proper authority. The Committee found that neither the Regional Chairman nor the supposed “Regional Functional Executive Committee” had the power to remove a serving parliamentary candidate from a national election.
The reasons cited for the withdrawal were found to be entirely unfounded as investigations revealed that the Regional Chairman played a pivotal role in this decision; an act which contravenes directives from the party’s General Secretary and National Chairman.
Again, the Regional Chairman was deemed to have engaged in behavior detrimental to the party’s reputation by making public the suspension of the Parliamentary Candidate
“In light of these findings, the FEC resolved to suspend the Regional Chairman for one month. He has been instructed to hand over all party property to the regional Vice Chairman, Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah, and to cease all activities as the Central Regional Chairman during this period.
The FEC emphasized that the decision was influenced by the Regional Chairman’s history of defying national leadership directives. The suspension’s lifting will be contingent upon his adherence to party guidelines and good behavior during this time.
