President John Dramani Mahama has assured nurses across the country that they will receive all unpaid allowance arrears from January till now.
According to the president, the Minister for Finance has made enough provision in the budget to ensure the arrears are paid on time, showing government’s commitment to the welfare of health workers.
Speaking during his Thank You Tour in Kintampo, Bono East Region on May 29, 2025, the president explained that the delay in payment is because the Finance Minister is working on a system to pay trainees through the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.
This, he says will make it possible for trainees to receive their allowances every month, just like salaried workers.
“On the issue of allowa, let me assure you that the minister has made adequate provision in the budget for the payment of allowances and the allowances will be paid from January and so you’ll get the arrears when we pay the allowances you’ll receive the arrears.”
“But what has delayed it is that the minister is putting in a system so that you’ll paid through the controller and accountant general so that every month when workers receive their salaries, trainees will also receive their allowances”
“So when that is done, you’ll receive your allowances every month and then we will be you the arrears from January until the time you started receiving the allowances”
President Mahama also said that in the Bono East Region, one of his main goals in education is to complete all abandoned E-Block school projects.
He added that his government will absorb first-year admission fees for all students entering public tertiary institutions.
The president further announced that tertiary education will be free for all persons with disabilities.
