President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to uphold the legacy and values of the late former President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills.
He described the late President as a symbol of ethical leadership and national unity.
Mr. Mahama shared this via his Facebook account following a wreath-laying ceremony held by the government to mark the 13th anniversary of President Mills’ passing on July 24, 2012.

Reflecting on Mills’ enduring influence, Mahama noted: “For many of us, the void he left on July 24, 2012, remains deeply felt, a testament to his profound impact on our nation and our hearts.”
He emphasized that the annual commemoration goes beyond tradition, asserting that “it is a national duty to remember the guiding values of the man we honour—humility, integrity, discipline, and above all, peace.”
Recalling his tenure as Vice President, Mahama praised Mills’ leadership style, marked by service, compassion, and moral clarity.
“I saw his tireless efforts to extend opportunity to every Ghanaian, his deep concern for the most vulnerable,” Mahama wrote.
He stressed that Mills consistently placed “truth over expedience, people over politics, and country over self.”
It is this juncture, the President called on the nation to move beyond ceremonial remembrance, urging citizens to “carry forward his values—reviving the spirit of ethical leadership, justice, and accountability that he embodied.”
Mr. Mahama further paid tribute to Mills’ family and reaffirmed a shared national commitment to the ideals the late president championed.
“Your work lives on in us, and your legacy continues to light our path.”
