The Government of Ghana has extended a humanitarian gesture to the people of Palestine by donating 40 metric tons of locally made cocoa products, including chocolate under the renowned Golden Tree brand. The initiative comes in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
President John Dramani Mahama, who made the announcement at the presidency on Friday, August 1, 2025, said the donation symbolizes Ghana’s enduring support for the Palestinian people and a commitment to shared humanity.
“The images and stories emerging from Gaza, particularly the suffering of innocent civilians, are heartbreaking. In this regard, the government of Ghana is pleased to extend a humanitarian donation of about 40 metric tons of Premier Ghana-made chocolate and cocoa-based products under the distinguished Golden Tree brand to the people of the state of Palestine,” he stated.

President Mahama emphasized that the cocoa-based items reflect not only Ghana’s rich natural endowment but also serve as a source of vital nutrition—especially for mothers and children severely affected by the conflict. He further reiterated Ghana’s stance in support of a two-state solution, encouraging all parties in the conflict to prioritize dialogue and peacebuilding.
The donation was officially received by the Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Abdalfatah Al-Sattari, who expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support and highlighted the emotional impact it would have on those in Gaza.
“If this chocolate arrives in Gaza, and it will arrive and our people only see the chocolate, you cannot imagine how happy they will be, and you can’t imagine how much more than happy they will be when they eat,” he said.
The Ambassador described the worsening humanitarian conditions in both Gaza and the West Bank, pointing to years of hardship caused by conflict and the blockade of aid.
“I know my people in Gaza and the West Bank, and I know the suffering and pain they are going through for a long time,” he added.

He also acknowledged the role of other nations, including Egypt and France, for supporting the two-state solution and advocating for peace in the region.
The handover ceremony was attended by several senior government officials, members of the diplomatic community, and representatives of humanitarian organisations.

President Mahama concluded with a strong message of support for the people of Palestine:
“To our brothers and sisters in Palestine, know that you do not walk alone. Ghana stands with you. May peace prevail.”
