Kumasi Asante Kotoko put their pre-season struggles behind them to claim the 2025 Champion of Champions trophy, edging Bibiani GoldStars 1-0 in a tightly contested final at DUNS Park on Sunday, August 31.
After a winless run in the GHALCA Top Four tournament, the Porcupine Warriors returned to form with renewed energy and focus, showing intent from the opening whistle.
Both sides applied early pressure, but Kotoko quickly took control of the game, dominating possession and setting the pace throughout the first half.
GoldStars, coming off an impressive Ghana Premier League campaign, nearly opened the scoring with a threatening free-kick midway through the half. However, Kotoko’s goalkeeper Camara Mohammed made a vital save to keep the scoreline intact.
The first half ended without goals, as both teams failed to capitalize on their limited chances.
The breakthrough came in the 68th minute when Kotoko midfielder Hamzata pounced on a loose ball from a set-piece and calmly finished from close range to give his side the lead.
GoldStars pushed hard in the closing stages, searching for an equalizer, but Kotoko’s defense stood strong, anchored by a disciplined backline that refused to yield.
This win marks Kotoko’s fourth Champion of Champions title and provides a timely confidence boost for head coach Karim Zito and his squad as they prepare for the upcoming season and the CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
For GoldStars, who will represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League, the loss highlights the level of competition they’ll face on the continental stage.
