Heath Goldfields Limited has confirmed that the tragic incident involving a group of illegal miners at its Prestea concession in the Western Region has claimed the lives of three individuals.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, reportedly saw the victims being infiltrated and trapped, leading to the casualties.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 19, the company disclosed that the victims were part of a group of illegal miners who used unapproved routes to access the restricted inactive underground section of the mine.
“Preliminary findings indicate these individuals used unauthorized routes to access a restricted area of the mine, leading to the tragic loss of 3 lives,” the company confirmed.
The company described the incident as unfortunate and extended its condolences to the bereaved families and the Prestea community, emphasizing that “every loss of life, regardless of circumstance, is painful.”
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families who have lost loved ones,” the statement read, adding that the company’s community relations team is actively engaging local leaders to provide support and keep residents informed.
Heath Goldfields says it is cooperating fully with the Ghana Police Service, the Minerals Commission, and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to support ongoing search, investigation, and recovery efforts.
The company commended the swift and professional response of these agencies.
