The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and its surrounding communities in the North East Region following recent disturbances in the area.
The deployment comes after some youth reportedly set two houses ablaze in the regional capital, Nalerigu, and issued threats to burn more houses and attack residents.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the security reinforcement is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and strengthening security in the affected communities.
The teams have also been tasked with enforcing the curfew imposed on Nalerigu and its environs by the government.
The police, the reinforcement teams will support the North East Regional Police Command to intensify security patrols on major highways to ensure the safety of commuters.
The Police Command has assured the general public, particularly residents of Nalerigu, that investigations into the attacks and burning of houses are ongoing.
It further indicated that all persons involved in the acts will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
