The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) prevented a devastating blaze at the Tema Community 1 Market from spreading further, after six shops were consumed by fire on Tuesday morning.
According to the GNFS, crews from the Tema Industrial Area Fire Station, supported by a water tanker from the Tema Regional Headquarters, responded promptly to a distress call at 0909 hours.
In a statement, the Service said firefighters arrived within ten minutes and managed to confine the flames to six shops, four sandcrete structures and two metal container shops, housing lace materials, tailoring services, books, and tailoring accessories.
It stated that the fire was brought under control at 0939 hours and fully extinguished by 1004 hours.
According to the statement, the timely response saved several other shops in the busy market from destruction.
“No casualties were recorded,” the GNFS said.
