Accra Hearts of Oak captain and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says he is unfazed by competition for the club’s first-choice goalkeeping role with Solomon Agbesi, downplaying concerns that it could affect their relationship.
He emphasized that competition exists in every human institution and acknowledged it as part of professional life.
Speaking to Ohema Woyeje, Mr. Asare stressed that he is not perturbed by the rivalry for the number one position.
“First of all, I don’t have any problem with Solomon Agbesi competing with me for Hearts of Oak’s number one slot,” he said on Angel FM on Monday, February 2, 2026.
He insisted that his relationship with fellow shot-stopper Agbesi remains strong both on and off the pitch, rejecting suggestions that the two are at loggerheads.
“We are brothers, friends, and everything in between because we’ve played in the same club. No one knows who might help you in future endeavors. So far, so good, there are no issues between us,” he disclosed.
The former Great Olympics goalkeeper further highlighted the importance of unity and mutual respect among teammates, stressing that his focus remains on collective success rather than personal gains.
“I don’t have any bad mindset toward anybody. My prayer is that we live healthily as brothers and help the club while we continue our football journey,” Asare added.
Asare’s comments come in response to public concerns about his chances of maintaining his Black Stars number one role for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This follows his recent loss of the starting berth at Hearts of Oak to Agbesi after sustaining an injury.
