Cocoa farmer, Nathaniel Apau has revealed the devastating impact of Konongo bypass project on local agriculture, as farmers plead for compensation and government support.
Speaking on ‘Anopa Bɔfoɔ’ show on Friday, February 6, 2026, Mr. Apau lamented that authorities failed to communicate to them before the commencement of the project.
“We never received any notice or communication before the Konongo bypass project took place on June 17, 2023.
“It has destroyed crops such as cocoa, maize and cassava and our livelihood have been stripped away,” he disclosed.
He also noted that, beyond the loss of crops, people have resorted to illegal mining ( galamsey), an alarming rise in robbery, creating an environment of fear among residents.
According to him, their compliant aired through media have so far not yield any significant outcomes.
“The first media organisation we visited was United Television (UTV) and they brought our struggles into the public eyes, hoping that it would spark action adding that authorities promised to compensate us, but the promises remains unfulfilled.”
He revealed that the situation has had serious negative consequences on the community, calling on the government to intervene on their behalf.
“People have even lost their lives. We want to be compensated. President John Mahama should come to our aide,” he added.
