President John Dramani Mahama has called for greater female representation, urging African leaders to prioritize women in leadership positions
Addressing the Zambian Parliament on Thursday February, 5, 2026, during his three-day visit, he highlighted his capacity as the African Union Champion for gender and development.
According to President Mahama “Ghana has moved beyond symbolism to action.”
He noted that Ghana has broken new ground by electing its first female vice president under the “Affirmative Action Gender Equity Act, mandating a minimum of 30% female representation in public appointment.”
Highlighting the relevance of the woman’s development bank to unlock financing for female led enterprises, President Mahama urged African to advance women’s financial aid and inclusion.
He reiterated the need for women’s inclusion, emphasizing that “when we invest in our women, we accelerate national development.”
