Popular musician, Sista Afia, has revealed a shocking news on how she battled depression at a young age before finding her path in music.
In an interview with ZionFelix, the artiste disclosed that she experienced severe depression at 17 while living in the United Kingdom.
“I was depressed at a very early age. At 17, I was so depressed that I didn’t know what to do,” she said.
Sista Afia recounted her early work experiences abroad, including stints as a bartender, waitress, chef, and later as a healthcare assistant after completing relevant courses and training.
She revealed that despite working hard, she was often unhappy as her earnings were used primarily to pay off debts.
“As I worked, I used my salary to pay off debts, and I was miserable. I kept working continuously and wasn’t happy with the work I was doing. I always complained to my mom because it was through her that I became a nurse; most of the ladies in my family were nurses,” she explained.
She also shared the difficulties she faced with housing, saying she sometimes had no roof over her head and had to stay with friends or even sleep in her car.
“It got to a point where I didn’t have a place to sleep, so I had to crash at my friend’s, before coming back to Ghana, I had issues with my rent and had to sleep in my car, packing all my things in the trunk,” she recounted.
Sista Afia added that her mother played a pivotal role in her decision to return to Ghana and pursue music.
“My mom is everything to me, so I always listened to her. When she said I should come to Ghana, I agreed to pursue music,” she concluded.
