Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has strongly dismissed suggestions that items retrieved from his room by operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau were incriminating.
His response follows a Facebook post by Kwabena Bobie Ansah, a journalist with Accra-based Accra FM, which sparked widespread discussion on social media.
In the post that triggered the response, Bobie Ansah wrote:
“Ofosu Nkansah is shocked at the exhibits found in his room by the NIB team. NIEP CEO by day, Scholarship Secretariat boss by night. Kofi, that KSI girl is coming after you.”
Responding directly to Bobie Ansah on Facebook, Ofosu Nkansah stated that he was not shocked by any items retrieved, stressing that there was “nothing illegal” in his home. He explained that the documents reportedly found consisted largely of curriculum vitae, transfer requests, study leave applications, scholarship-related correspondence, school placement requests, internship letters, and other formal requests from young people he had assisted in submitting to various institutions.
“Those who know me well know I spent a lot of time chasing opportunities in government for the youth, and no one can say I ever asked for anything to provide assistance,” he stated.
Ofosu Nkansah further argued that similar practices are common across the political landscape, citing instances where Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have publicly distributed Ghana Education Service appointment letters despite not being officials of the Service.
He explained that some of the hard-copy documents remained in his home because scanned versions had already been submitted to the relevant institutions or beneficiaries, making the originals unnecessary to retain elsewhere.
“Whilst some may have stacks of cash in their homes, I have stacks of documents of foot soldiers’ requests. And I’m proud of the work I did,” he added.
